Bird and Wildlife Watching

The diverse habitats at the Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center attract many species of wildlife.

Neotropical songbirds pass through during both spring and fall migration.  Many species may also be found nesting here throughout the summer.

Species seen during spring migration:

  • Baltimore Oriole
  • Orchard Oriole
  • Blue-winged Warbler
  • Blackpoll Warbler
  • Blackburnian Warbler
Species seen nesting throughout summer:

  • Acadian Flycatcher
  • Summer Tanager
  • Scarlet Tanager
  • Indigo Bunting
  • Yellow-throated Warbler
  • Prothonotary Warbler
  • Yellow-billed Cuckoo
  • Kentucky Warbler

Other wildlife species seen include white-tailed deer, raccoon, muskrat, beaver, several species of turtles, snakes and frogs and many species of butterflies. 

Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center is home to over 1,100 species of flowering plants and over 150 species of trees including the Franklinia, which is extinct in the wild.
